the real important stuff

APPEARANCE»»» Riley is a tall and lanky teenage boy, he stands at about six feet and two inches and only weighs a hundred and fifty pounds, his limbs are rather long and thin. He doesn’t fit the conventional stereotypes of masculine, and has little muscle tone, but he’s relatively free of flab as well. His tall frame makes him slightly imposing, but, while he’s fast, he’s not an exceptional physical fighter.
Rye has exceptionally pale skin, which makes him delicate to the hot sun. His skin offers an excellent contrast to his shaggy dark hair which covers his left eye and is in awful need of a trim most of the time. His hairs gives him the appearance of someone who has not seen a comb in a very long time, of course, Riley tries to comb his hair, most of the time, it just seems to be happiest out of order and splayed everywhere. Much like his hair his eyes are also dark. They have a shifty look about them and the glares he can give could pierce a soul. The smile that almost always graces his face though lights up the entire area, giving him a friendly and outgoing air about him.
The one thing Riley won’t admit to is his slight obsession with body modification. He’s got several piercings; two eyebrow studs on his right eyebrow, a tongue stud, snake bites, three hoops in his left ear, a bellybutton stud he got on a dare once and regrets and quite a few tattoos; black charred angel wings on his back, tribal tramp stamp, a dying rose around his naval. He doesn’t think he has any issues though, but it’s like a drug to him. The power to change his body, it’s something he has control over, something that he can do easily to improve himself. Though he has considered the drastic measure of plastic surgery to alter himself, he hasn’t quite gone that far yet.
His clothing, compared to his body modifications, is somewhat modest and consists of a light black sweat shirt over an olive tee, accompanied by a pair of worn faded black jeans. He likes simple and comfortable things; to this day not even Riley’s parents have seen him in a tuxedo or anything that takes even a remote amount of work, like his hair, his clothes are a ragged mess, but that seems to be how he likes them He will not normally take off his sweatshirt as without it Riley feels uncomfortably exposed, however when in the right mood it may be impossible to get him to put his shirt back on. Though with his shirts no one would ever notice, in these rare shirtless moments Riley always has a silver heart locket around his neck, it’s clearly girl’s jewellery, but barely anyone ever sees it.
From any average point of view, Riley is an attractive boy, but not drop dead handsome. There’s nothing really extreme about him, no gorgeous blue eyes, or stunning six pack, though he did try very hard one summer to achieve one. He likes his appearance being simple though, in a way it allows him to be accepted, and when needed to blend with groups of people, no extravagant hair colors to make him stand out, no huge flashing arrows pointing at him. If he needs to he can hide, because though its pretty, and sure there are a few piercings here and there, his face is ultimately forgettable.
PERSONALITY»»» Outwardly Riley is somewhat of a dog. Riley will flirt with anything that qualifies as human. Girls, boys, anything. He’s doesn’t flirt to tease people, but he’s not looking for a relationship either, he just likes flirting. He’s all charm and smiles most of the time. Nothing ever gets to him, he’s friends with everyone, and he’s always willing to be optimistic.
While he’s a generally kind person, he often does pick out faults in people, especially on his bad days. If he’s not flirting, chances are he’s taunting and teasing someone about their weight, or hair, or eye color. He always teases about physical things, not personality issues. He’s rather bipolar with this, one second he may be complementing your eyes, and the next telling you what a bulbous nose you have. Riley’s insults are normally light and in jest however, if he does hurt people’s feelings he’s oblivious to it, if there’s one thing Riley doesn’t want it’s to hurt people.
However, the Riley he presents to others is very far from his real self. Though he presents himself to be a happy and well adjusted flirt, Riley hides his true thoughts and feelings from most people. He does often act like a jerk and say cruel things, but for all the insults he hands to other he has a dozen for himself. He picks apart his own personality and appearance tearing himself apart, and he does this over and over again.
While Riley used to have friends he would entrust with his secrets, his pain and worries, when he left Mahogany Town to become a coordinator, he blocked everyone out. He still befriends people, and let’s them believe they know him, but no one knows Riley. Inside he’s a shy and awkward boy, who’s certain he’ll never be loved again. A boy with the same problems as most teens, he just masks them with a smile.
The smiling mask is unbelievably hard to penetrate, but the boy is only human. Certain faults, when picked out will push him over the edge. Mentioning Annabelle might even send him into a complete state of mental distress. Poking fun at his body altercations also seems to send him teetering over the edge of sanity. Though he puts on a big boy face, Riley is still a young and fragile boy at heart.
Even though it’s incredibly rare Riley will ever let anyone into his heart, he protects the people there with ferocity. He stands up for those he trusts, even though he may stand by, and even join in while others are mocked. He’s not one to fight, or even viciously insult for that matter, he’s not afraid to act if someone is picking on one of the few people he cares for.
Back with outer Riley, he also tends to be very cocky; even though inside he can’t stand himself; outside he’ll have no problem ranting on about how incredibly wonderful he finds himself, listing off his many redeemable characteristics and raving about his stunning good looks. He’s also rather proud of his Pokémon and their extravagant array of talents and charm.
Though he often brags about his skills with his Pokémon, Riley is somewhat of a lax trainer. The moves, the power, stuff like that doesn’t really bug him. He wants to be a coordinator, but he’s shy about being upfront with it as his only dream as he feels that trainer is the manlier task, but one look at his Pokémon and its clear that they were made for beauty, not brutality. Not only that, but Riley rather dislikes battling for the sole purpose of knocking the other Pokémon out. It’s just brutish in his opinion.
HISTORY»»» Riley was never a particularly rowdy boy. Children were to be seen and not heard. Children who were heard were to be punished. That was his world as a child, he was quiet, he behaved and his parents bought him whatever he fancied. Toys, gadgets, books, of course he had tons of friends who enjoyed visiting him to play with his things, but never anyone he saw staying around after all the things were gone.
For his twelfth birthday, Riley asked for a Pokémon, his parents offered to get him one from a breeder, and so his father took him to one. His father offered egg upon egg, Onix, Machop, Charmander, Grimer, Skarmory, but none of them struck his fancy. Much to his father’s dismay instead of choosing one of the more, masculine Pokémon, Riley got a Vulpix egg. Before long, Alexhis hatched.
Riley and Alexis soon became inseparable. Putting Alexis into the confines of a pokeball was an unfathomable cruelty to his friend. The two were never seen without each other, they were salt and pepper, two peas in a pod. They were so close that Riley would’ve trusted his life to the tiny red creature. However, though they didn’t know it yet, soon that two, would be extended to three.
Annabelle moved in next to them a few months after his thirteenth birthday. She was perfect. Deep auburn hair that hung to her shoulders in ringlets, large sparkling gray eyes. An endless joy for life and a will to do kindness unto everyone. She became fast friends with Riley and joined their trio of inseperable friendship. They spent long summer days playing in grassy fields or sneaking around Mahogany Town just enjoying the peacefulness of the place.
Of course from girls come women, and boy come men. At the age of fifteen, Riley started to feel differently about Annabelle. He had seen her battling ferociously with her Maganium, he had seen her cry when she had decided to release her Milktank back into the wild so it could grow, he had seen her smile with the victory of her first gym battle, and he loved her. They became even closer never straying from each other, and in their tender and optimistic first loved planned their future together.
She trained hard to battle gyms and caught the strongest Pokémon, preparing herself for a strategic battle. She caught as many as she could. Riley caught only an oddish which he evolved into a gloom, he saw beauty in it, and was drawn to it as he had been to Alexis, just not quite as strong. Riley studied beautiful Pokémon, while Annabelle studied which could inflict more damage. Despite the different nature of their training they stuck together.
Near their sixteenth birthday, after grooming Isaiah, his gloom, he proposed to Annabelle. Of course it wasn’t technically a marriage proposal; it was more of a promise ring. A promise of loyalty to each other until such a time they could be married. United together legally as well as spiritually. She accepted of course, and she went through the trouble of telling her parents who were delighted.
How fragile love is though, and life, the thin silver threads that things cling to, the weak glass separating present and future. All the threads snapped, and the glass broke. While in the woods on a rather sunny day, Julian, a wurmple he had loaned to Annabelle for her journey to Blackthorn to face the gym leader there, came to him in a panic. The small pink worm was all worked up about something. He brushed it off and went about his business returned Julian to his pokeball.
Later on the news he learned that trainers had begun to go missing, near Blackthorn. He left for the area as fast as he could, searching for his love. He searched everywhere, but she just wasn’t there. As he was leaving, a glint caught his eye however, a silver glint. It was Annabelle’s locket; she had never been without it before. He put it around his own neck, when he found her, and he would find her, he could return this, and then, things would be right again

Maybe it was time to let go. Maybe there was no point in trying anymore. He had tried; he’d searched everywhere he could think of. Maybe Annabelle was just gone, maybe she’d run away. Well, that was better than the alternative anyways. If she had been taken...what would he do with his life. Everything was spinning. Riley ran a shaking hand through his hair again.
The search was taking its toll; he looked far more aged and ragged than usual. Dark circles had formed under his eyes from all the night’s sleep had escaped him. His hair had only gotten more out of control from the several days in which he had refused to struggle with it. His skin was almost a sickly gray color and his dark eyes had become dull and lifeless.
Find her, find happiness, and find life. For days that’s all he could think about. It was his fault. He had let Annabelle go. Stupid. He should have gone with her, he should have never let her off on her own and- Riley looked up. Before him was a small town, Violet City. The traditional style of the town at least told him that, otherwise he wouldn’t have known where he was. In fact, he wasn’t even sure of how he had arrived here, though he must have been walking it seems.
It was weird...none of this seemed real. In fact ever since Annabelle had left, nothing had seemed like it was ”NO!” He let out a powerful shriek and slammed his fist into the side of what must have been somebody’s home. Don’t think about Annabelle, he made a mental note to himself. Instead he looked down at Alexis. A small tuft of red fur, his best friend and confidant now that Annabelle was gone. Alexis let out a soft yawn and flopped down, and for some reason this comforted Riley. Alexis was right, it was time for rest.
The lanky young boy let his pale figure slide down the side of the wall he had just punched. He had been careful; his hand wasn’t broken, just a bit scratched up and in pain. He held it in his other hand and looked up at the clouds. The sun shone down...the same sun everyone else could see, everyone in the world. The thin strands that hold humanity together constantly working, breaking often. Belle's had broke, and maybe this was something he couldn't stick back together. He closed his eyes.
For once he thought he might let tears fall from his eyes, to let himself feel and let go of some of the pain he had held onto. Instead a smile slowly graced his lips, a smile that looked as real as anything, but was simply a mask for the pain. He smiled and closed his eyes. Maybe the pain wouldn't go away, but he could always smile, at least then, no one else would have to know.
