NICKNAMES»»» Mel

BIRTHDAY»»» March 4th

the real important stuff
APPEARANCE»»» With fluffy, fairly long gold hair, blue eyes, and a pretty face, Melrose can sometimes be mistaken for a girl at a glance. His broad shoulders and confident --if not callous-- way of carrying himself himself, however, makes most people realize he's male upon closer inspection. His long arms, legs and fingers give him something of a lanky and awkward appearance while he's walking or running, but a more elegant one when he's standing still.
Being an amiable sort, he smiles most of the time whether he is angry, sad, or nervous, but his real feelings or thoughts can be seen in his eyes. Narrowed, widened, or locked on the sky above as he tries to avoid eye-contact, whatever he is feeling or thinking, his blue eyes portray clearly when combined with several nervous twitches--such as rubbing the bridge of his nose, scratching behind one ear, and kicking pebbles.
When he's truly upset, however, it can be seen in his entire appearance. His hair becomes even more messy and ruffled than it usually is, he won't bother tying his shoe laces, and will abandon the buttons on his shirt something above midway. During which time, he looks like a rowdy teenager out to vandalize something.
PERSONALITY»»» Melrose has a kind of apathy aimed more towards himself rather than the world around him. At heart, he couldn't care less what happened to him. Death, he assumed, would simply give him some peace of mind, and how it came about didn't really matter to him, either, since it was the end that counted. Not that he doesn't try to survive, he puts just as much effort into staying alive as anybody but more because he likes to see things through to the end.
Melrose's apathy towards himself comes mainly from his low self-esteem. He can hardly stand himself and his weakness of character. His many flaws --especially his kleptomania-- are more clear and defined to himself, often making him contemplate suicide but never actually take the step. He hates to steal, even if it is unintentional, and the guilt weighs heavily on his mind. There is also the matter of his somewhat feminine appearance, which he was often teased about as a child, and is still teased about somewhat as a teen.
He can be pretty playful sometimes, joking around and sometimes annoying the people around him. Melrose is always curious to see how different people react to various actions, such as noogies, pokes, or thoroughly obnoxious words. He can also be something of a flirt at times, but not ever really expecting to be accepted, he flirts only lightly, making everything seem like a joke rather than actual attraction.
He loves to smile, a habit his sister rooted in him from a young age, teaching him that a smile could make him feel better as well as the people around him. His pleasant little smile is directed at most everyone, but stops abruptly for anyone he dislikes. When faced with a person he hates, Melrose will go out of his way to be unpleasant. Not in an truly insulting, or violent way, he'll simply speak very little, and anything he says will be scathingly sarcastic. In some ways, it's as if his true character shows in those moments, his hidden angers and frustrations lashing out in face of the person he hates.
HISTORY
»»» Melrose's parents were divorced, and Melrose lived with his mother, Tessa Redd, while his sister, Lana Redd, lived with their father, Jarell Redd. Melrose and his sister were very close, and remained close even after the separation of their parents. At that time, Melrose was just 7 and the divorce hit him hard. His sister was at a loss of how to cheer him up. Eventually, she just burst out with "SMILE, YOU IDIOT! You're making me glum, too!". At the thought that he was making his sister glum, Melrose had gasped in horror. He replied that he wasn't an idiot, but he didn't get any more cheerful. It took a lot of tickling, noogies, and jokes on his sisters part to restore him to his previous merry-go-lucky state. She taught him to take life as it came and make do, which he did...
Until his Kleptomania kicked in. It was when he'd just turned 13. He began to find, coming back from school or some other place, he had a little something in his pocket each time he went out. He wouldn't have even realized he picked it up. It was never anything valuable, an eraser, a ball of string, even a small plastic whistle at one point. He'd always get shocked, afterword, staring at the object in wonder and not knowing how he could have overlooked himself taking these things. Soon enough, his discomfort and confusion began to turn into fear and shame. He couldn't bring himself to tell anyone about it, and the little pile of objects he hid away under his bed continued to grow. Just the idea of being found out fill him with a deep sense of despair. Melrose was even pushed beyond the point of tears.
It was only when a friend of his, Clay White found out, that Melrose spoke about his problem. Clay had noticed Melrose acting strange, and invited himself over to Melrose's home and conducted a thorough interrogation on the poor, befuddled Klepto, who could do nothing but stutter out nonsense and, when Clay found the "stash", yelp. Clay whipped around and shook Melrose by the collar, "What the HELL?" he demanded. "If you're a Kleptomaniac, you should get help! Fool!"
It was all Melrose could do to mumble an apology. He was fiddling with his thumbs when Clay shoved a pokeball into his hands. He was informed that the pokeball was occupied by a Shinx, that would now be his friend and guardian of sorts. Melrose squinted at Clay questioningly. Sighing, Clay explained that the Shinx would go everywhere with him and keep an eye on him, should he even try and steal anything again. Overjoyed, Melrose gave Clay a hug, making him squeak in outrage, and turn red with embarrassment and, to some extent, happiness at having done a good deed.
He named his Shinx Antauri and the two became really close in a short amount of time. Melrose nearly never putting Antauri into his pokeball, the two were always together, walking side-by-side. Whenever Melrose was about to steal something Antauri always noticed and stopped him, gabbing Melrose's sleeve in his teeth and tugging it away. At first, Melrose had wanted to be a trainer, and had trained Antauri as a battling pokemon, leveling him up and allowing him to evolve, but he eventually began to go to more and more contests out of curiosity, and, after a while, decided he wanted to enter his pokemon in them as well. His sister, who wasn't much into pokemon, had given him a pretty little Riolu, telling him that the blue creature could win points simply based on looks. Having two pokemon which he felt capable of protecting him, Melrose moved out of his mothers house and began to travel on his own, attending contests and occasionally battling.
And so, Melrose is now in a team of three...
ROLEPLAY SAMPLE»»» Melrose was woken up by the feeling of something nudging his shoulder. Sleepily, he opened one eye to look at who was causing this annoying interruption of his sleep, only to see Antauri's face inches away from his own, the luxray's red nose nearly touching his. Oh, please! Melrose turned over and pulled the covers up over his shoulders to soften the nudges his luxray was giving him with its nose. Muttering about how he was going to put ALL his pokemon into their pokeballs at night, Melrose resumed his sleep hoping Antauri would lose interest and give up. It was still dark out, and he certainly wasn't going to be getting up at the crack of dawn no matter what the situation was. It was somewhat unusual for Antauri to be waking him up this early, though. Not unless Nova was had gotten out of her pokeball and was causing trouble. Half-asleep and with his eyes still closed, Melrose reached out to touch Nova's pokeball. It was open! He got up with a gasp, now wide awake, and looked around for the mischievous Riolu. Nova was nowhere in the room. Grabbing a shirt from the bedside table and pulling it on as he ran for the door, Melrose started giving Antauri orders. "Find Nova, Antauri. You can see through walls, so it should be pretty easy, we'll just walk through the hotel. She can't have gotten far."
Antauri didn't move. Melrose stared at his luxray and raised an eyebrow questioningly. Gesturing somewhat smugly with its snout, the luxray motioned towards the roof above the door. Looking up, Melrose found Nova hanging onto the small ceiling fan above the door, awaiting her owner to use the keycard and open the door to allow her a chance at escape. Seeing she was busted, however, she hummed a little in disappointment and climbed down, Melrose frowning at her as she descended.
"I ought to have Antauri zap you." he informed the riolu, tapping his foot, and folding his arms so as to seem more angry. "Should I?" Nova shook her head 'No'. "Then stay in your pokeball next time and wait for me to release you in the morning, you troublemaker. I suppose since we're up at this ungodly hour we may as well have breakfast..." The two pokemon gave a little cheer.
It wasn't long after having eaten that Melrose stumbled out of the hotel, still a bit sleepy, his backpack on his shoulder and his pokemon walking on either side of him. He ran a hand through his hair and looked down at his map. Where was the contest hall...?

NAME»»» Antauri
SPECIES»»» Luxray
GENDER»»» Male
PERSONALITY»»» Serious and watchful, Antauri only ever loosens up when he's absolutely sure there's nothing to worry about--such as his owner stealing something or Nova getting up to no good. Needless to say, he doesn't relax often. When he does, however, he becomes especially playful, like a completely different pokemon.
