the real important stuff
APPEARANCENormal. That would be the best word to describe how Aoi looks. He has no odd scars or crazy, unnatural hair color. He is not amazing tall, or short, and he doesn't have brilliantly bright eyes. He is normal.
We'll begin with face. Aoi's got a cute face. He's not one of those amazingly attractive men you see walking around with girls on each arm. No, he's got more of a baby face. Nothing on his face is sharp or chiseled looking. His cheeks are round and make you want to pinch them whenever you walk by. His nose is small and curved, ending in rounded tip. Even his ears are more rounded that one would expect, and they are a tad on the large side, but it's not that noticeable. His skin tone is actually rather dark and tanned, which is usually a rare sight in Johto. It is from years of traveling and training. He is dumbfounded by how some trainers who are out more than he is remain pale as ghosts. His teeth are perfectly straight and white, a blessing he was given at birth. He takes pride in them and, because of them, isn't afraid to smile. His eyes are large and extremely dark brown to compliment his dark skin tone. From a distance, his eye could look like one, large pupil. It isn't until you examine closer that you can pick out the different colors. Under his eyes are large and noticeable bags, a visible side-effect of his insomnia. His hair is jet black and naturally poker straight. However, he doesn't just let it hang in his eyes or anything. It ends up going up in a rounded spike. Needless to say hair gel and hairspray are with Aoi at all times. His voice is rather high-pitched for someone of his age, but not extremely so. It just fits his strange personality all the better.
When talking about his build, Aoi is lean, but nothing to take a second look at. He stands at a height of 5'9'' and weighs 140 pounds. He is skinny and compact, his muscle tone visible under his skin if you looked. However, he's not body builder. In fact, he's quite weak, especially when it comes to lifting things. He has no lift power, and can barely do one pull up. This is alright, though, because Aoi is a master of Hapkido, a self-defense type of martial art where he has learn to make up for his lack of arm strength.
Aoi's style is rather professional and modern, but very plain at the same time. He wears a simple, button down polo, the color varying from day to day but it is usually white or black. He wears a simple, skinny red tie to bring some color into the outfit. He has other ties, but he prefers to wear the red one on most occasions. He always wears black dress pants. They just look good with everything, and give him an accomplished look. You will never see him without a simple black belt and his shirt will always be tucked in. If you ever see it not tucked in, you can be sure there is something wrong. His shoes are a pair of comfy, yet still stylish black shoes. They're not sneakers, and look rather fancy, but Aoi finds them extremely comfortable and is happy to wear them traveling. To finish his outfit, he wears a plain black messenger bag that has a light gray, stylized Pokeball design on the lower left corner. It is used to carry all of his items, and the occasional sleepy Anorith.
PERSONALITYAoi's normal appearance is by no means a reflection of his personality. He is a character, and a funny one at that! He's got a lively and bubbly personality. There is no one word that could be used to describes him. He is one of those people who you have to grow used to. He's not the type to get more outgoing as you get to know him, he shows his whole self from the get-go, and that bugs some people.
Like previously stated, Aoi is extremely outgoing and friendly. If you look interesting enough, he'll go out of his way to talk to you, even if he has to end up tracking you down. He just loves people who are as outgoing and interesting as he is himself. That being said, he will also give the more shy and reserved people a chance. Just because you're not as talkative doesn't mean he'll think any less of you. He's very open-minded, and isn't the type to judge a book by his cover. That is probably because people usually do that to him. Co-ordinating isn't considered a very 'manly' profession, so that along with the refined, stylish way he dresses leads many people to believe he's gay, which he most certainly isn't. He is actually very much straight, and would like to have a girlfriend, that is if he ever met the right girl.
That leads us to the next quirk in Aoi's personality. He has this obsession with being manly. You see, since he is constantly mistaken for being gay, he thinks that doing whatever he can in a manly manner will make people think otherwise. But, this is extremely hard for him. Why? Because Aoi is one of the most emotionally driven guys you will ever meet. His heart is stamped in bright red ink on his sleeve. So, because of this, he is constantly contradicting himself. For example, he could be walking down the road and see a cute Shinx. Instantly he will turn into a little girl and get all excited over it, only to realize what he is doing and quickly brush it off, acting as if the cuteness doesn't affect him and making his voice deeper than usual. However, his emotions usually end up getting the better of him. Aoi will be one of the first to cry if something sad happens, and will sometimes just burst out into tears when thinking about something sad, like his sister. But, this doesn't mean he is one of those depressive, angsty guys who are always upset. In fact, he is quite the opposite. Aoi is usually happy or some other positive emotion, and he loves being around other people. He he could, he would love to find someone who would travel with him on his search to find his sister. Speaking of his sister, Aoi is on a constant search for her. He carries a picture of her in his pocket at all times and treats it as precious as if it were gold. His first words to someone are usually, "Have you seen this girl?"
Now, Aoi is already a decent Co-ordinator with a few ribbons under his belt, but he doesn't let that get to his head. In fact, he's actually very humble. You will never hear him boast about his wins or make fun of you for loosing. He will be the first to congratulate someone on winning a contest or battle, even if they had won against him! He's not the type to hold grudges, unless it is something extremely bad. He's pretty laid-back and just rolls with the punches of life. He thinks if you get upset over the little things, like loses, then you won't be able to enjoy life to the fullest. Because of that, Aoi is usually very relaxed in contests and battles. He doesn't have the anxiety of loosing that most people do, so he can keep a cool and calm composure while in the heat of a contest or battle. Aoi also has a secret wish to be a Pokemon Sommelier, but he has never told anyone, not even his sister. If he did, they would just think he was gay even more! He is a really good cook though, so that's a start towards his secret goal.
However, Aoi does have a dark side, like all people, its just hard to get it to come out. He's actually a rather conflicted person, and he's got low self-esteem issues, not that he'd ever show it. He wants everyone to like him, and is constantly worrying that someone doesn't like him. He's also constantly in worry about his sister, Nami. Since her disapperance, Aoi's insomnia is back with a vengeance. Some days he can just be so lethargic because of the lack of sleep. When he does manage to get to sleep, it isn't a deep one. He is plagued with dreams about her and what had happened to her, good and bad. If for some reason you stay the night with him during his travels, you will see how restless he really is during the night. He's constantly moving around, playing with the fire, and tossing and turning when he finally manages to get to sleep. And, when it comes to finding his sister and seeing her again, Aoi will do absolutely anything, even turning violent if he has to. He can turn into an extremely different person if his sister's safety is involved.
HISTORY[To be able to explain this more fully and fluently, this section is going to be told from the POV of Aoi. ]
I was born on a cold morning in February or, at least, cold for Hoenn. It was still at least 40 degrees, but that was low for the usually tropical climate of the region. The city was Mauville. I was the first son and child of two wonderful young people, Akane and Reid Itou. They were just newlyweds as they had yet to hit their one year anniversary. That was still two months away. Like a lot of couples, my parents got pregnant with me on their honeymoon, but just thinking about that gives me the heebie-geebies so let's leave that as it is. Anyways, after two days of supervision, my parents took me home and, not to pat myself on the back or anything, but I was a good kid. I didn't cry much and started sleeping through the night at a very early age. My parents often called me a blessing. I also was perfectly healthy, and still am to this day. I have the immune system of a rhino. But. I'm getting off subject again. Things went well in the house. We were a very Pokemon oriented house. My dad was a breeder, and my mom was a retired Ranger who now did her work from home. It was determined from birth that I would follow in their footsteps and do something with Pokemon when I grew up. I was spoiled rotten, but it didn't get to my head like most kids. I was always that really cute, quiet kid that preferred to sit in the back of the classroom and color by myself than go out and watch the random trainer battles with the other kids. I was more in tune with my creative and imaginative side than my energetic one. My teachers and parents noticed this, and it was determined at a young age that I really didn't have a future in battling, like most kids would want to be. I can't tell you the look of relief on my mother's face! Battling was always considered a more dangerous profession than Co-ordinator, even though those both dealt with Pokemon and traveling. It never really made much sense to me. But, despite that, I got good grades in school, and was always on the honor roll.
When I was eight years old, it happened, the greatest and happiest moment of my life. My baby sister, Nami, was born. She was just the most perfect little thing I had ever seen, and my eyes lit up every time I looked at her. She looked just like me too, same nose, same hair color and eye color. She was even blessed with the same perfectly straight teeth as me, but she wouldn't get those until later in life. Back then, when I was looking at her through that thick glass wall in the nursery, I knew it was my job to protect her. I was her big brother! As long as I was around, nothing or no one would ever hurt her. I would be the best big brother in the history of big brothers! My parents thought it was cute when I told them, but they didn't understand how serious I was being, and I don't think they ever did find out.
Shortly after bringing Nami home, it was quickly realized that she wasn't the angel that I was. She liked to be held all the time and would cry if someone went out of eyesight of her. It drove her parents nuts. Since mom was stuck at the computer doing her work from home, dad had to do most of the care taking. It got so bad he had to put his breeding career on hold until she grew out of that stage. But, whenever I got home from school, I was always ready to help. I took her so my dad could get a much needed nap and was always running errands for them. My dad would never thank me enough for all the things I did for him in those long months before Nami could crawl. Even on his death bed, he was still trying to thank me properly. But, I didn't need thanks. I was part of the family too, and she was my sister. It was my obligation to help.
As Nami grew, so did I. I started taking Co-ordinating classes after going to a contest for my fourteenth birthday and discovering it was what I wanted to do with my life. During that time, Nami has started Kindergarten and I had taught her how to ride a two-wheeler. She picked up on how to ride that bike a lot quicker than I had. She loved it. She rode it everywhere she could. It worried my parents. She would ride off, sometimes for an hour or two, and she was still young. They were worried she could get herself hurt. But, they didn't know me. I always kept an eye on her. I knew where she was at, and what time she'd be back. Me and my sister were the closest two siblings could be without it being weird.
I guess that was all the better when the accident happened. My parents had gone to Mossdeep City for one of my dad's best customers. Something happened to the boat they were on. The authorities couldn't pin-point the exact reason why it crashed into port, but they had two solutions. One, faulty propeller. The other was that there was a large number of Sharpedo breeding in the area at the time. Their large fins and rough skin are a huge danger to boaters and their boats. It was possible one of them damaged the boat's propeller so that it wouldn't respond when the captain of the boat told it to slow down. But, that didn't really matter. Both my parents were injured in the crash, my mom dying before we made it to the hospital. My dad was still alive though, but just barely. He was hurt bad, broken ribs, punctured liver and internal and external lacerations. He didn't look like the same determined, wise man he had been when they last say him. I had always looked up to my dad as a role-model. I did love my mom very much, but a boy will always look up to his father. It is only natural. He was my hero. But now, he barely had the energy to talk. It hurt bad, so bad. I remember trying not to cry as I listened to him talk to the two of us. I couldn't cry, not with Nami as broken as she already was. I had to keep myself together, for her sake. He told us he loved us both, and thanked me for all the things I ever did. He said he couldn't have asked for a greater son, and he wished he could have lived to see my first real contest battle. He died shortly after that, but I had gotten Nami out of the room before she could see.
After that, it was only me and her. My aunt and uncle came to live with us in Mauville, but things just weren't the same. They payed our bills, but they could never replace our parents. Nami also started acting out after that, getting into fights at school and going missing for hours at a time. It worried me to no end. I found it hard to sleep at night, afraid she might try to escape sometime during the night. I guess that's when I started to develop my insomnia. I stopped going to Co-ordinating classes. I just didn't have the energy, or the money. My aunt and uncle didn't have as steady of jobs as my parents, and we were often scrapping bottom. I was forced to get a job helping out a local man with his Day-Care center. It was a fun job, but sometimes a hard one. Watching those Pokemon just being dropped off and waiting days, weeks, months even for their trainers to come home...it broke my heart sometimes. I could never do that to my own Pokemon, if I ever got one.
It was a little while after that. I had just turned nineteen, and was going back to work after a little vacation. The road I usually took to the daycare center was blocked by roadwork, so I was forced to take the back way. I usually didn't go that way because there were rumors of a vicious Manectric pack attacking passersby that got too close. I didn't have much of a choice though, so I continued very cautiously. It was my cautiousness that caused me to hear that small whimpering sound from a patch of long grass. I was curious and, despite the danger, went to check it out. My heart broke when I say her. She looked so broken, like she had given up on the world. I picked her up, careful not to hurt her anymore. She looked at me with those big, dark eyes, but she did not attack me like I thought she might. Instead, the small green puppy just fell limp in my arms. It worried me, and I knew I had to hurry. I was close to the Day-Care, so I decided to head there first. Once I got there, he immediately got a super potion, and sprayed it on the wounded Electrike. It didn't heal her totally, but it would help until we could get her to the Pokemon Center. I asked Nurse Joy what could have done this to her. I thought it had been a bad trainer or something because she hadn't freaked out when I picked her up. But, she said no. The Electrike was a wild Pokemon, and it seemed as though the wounds were inflicted by other Pokemon. I immediately thought of the Manectric pack. Could they have done this to her?
I spent two days and nights at the center. Even though I had just met the small Pokemon, I was already growing attached. It was on the third morning that she was allowed to leave. I wasn't sure what she would do now. I didn't want to let her go back to the wild. I didn't want this to happen to her again. Lucky for me, she didn't seem to want to go back. In fact, she seemed to want to stay with me! Maybe it was because she thought she owed me for saving her, or maybe she was afraid to go back, but it didn't matter. I was ecstatic! I finally had my own Pokemon, and I could start my Co-ordinating career for real now.
I wasn't much longer after that that Nami revealed to me that she had been secretly studying battling, and that she wanted to be a trainer. I was floored. How could she have been doing this all behind my back? Did she not trust me? She even had gotten her first Pokemon, a male Treeko she named Zoro. Where she got him, she has yet to tell me. I wasn't too happy, but there wasn't much I could do. After some long talking, we decided that maybe this was for the best. We could both start our careers at the same time, and I would be able to allow her to do what she loved without worrying. It was settled, and just a week after deciding, we were headed out.
We traveled all throughout Hoenn, training and getting stronger with every gym battle or contest. Nami was a natural, headstrong trainer. It wasn't long before she had a full team, and she was able to earn her first two badges with ease. Me? Well, I was more casual about the whole thing. I was in no rush to win every one of my contests. I had my whole life to do that. Right now, I was just enjoying the experience. I was able to obtain two more Pokemon, Rudy and Rai-Rai. It was with Rai-Rai that I had won my first contest in Fallabor Town. It was a thrilling experience. I went on to win two more contests in Hoenn, a decent number, but not quite enough for the Grand Contest. Nami, however, was able to obtain all eight of her gym badges, and went on to challenge the Pokemon League. She was so confident, but she got knocked out in the first round by a trainer who ended up being the runner up of the entire tournament. We left Hoenn after that, deciding to visit other regions and get more experience. We headed to Sinnoh first, and spent a great deal of time there. I only got one ribbon, however, and when Nami could not obtain her fifth badge, we left for the mysterious Unova region.[As I am not sure if anything 5th gen is allowed on this site, I will leave this part of his history out.] I decided that I wanted to go back to Hoenn after that to try and get my last two ribbons. But, Nami had other ideas.
"I'm going to Johto." She said it so casually, as if I wasn't going to care. She was wrong.
"What? Why? N-no! You're going back home with me." I knew she wasn't going to listen to me, but I just couldn't let her go. She was all I had left, the thing I loved the most in the world. I was afraid if I let her go, she might never come back. But, she was insistent on going, and it lead to an argument between us. I wasn't about to change my mind, until-
"I'm not your kid, Aoi! I'm your sister! You can't keep telling me what to do and watching every little step I take. I'm old enough to make my own decisions!" It was then I realized, she was right. I hadn't seen it, but she was growing up. She was fifteen years old now. She was no longer the newborn I remembered first seeing through that glass wall. She was already and accomplished trainer and would soon be a name common among other trainers. So, I let her go. I went back to Hoenn and continued entering contests while she went to challenge the gyms in Johto. She called me every night, though, to tell me she was alright and to boast about the day's accomplishments.
Then, two months ago, the calls just stopped. I waited up for three straight nights, but nothing. Not even a text. I thought maybe she had lost her Pokegear or had lost its wireless charger, so I went to the Pokemon Center to see if she had left me a message there. Nothing. I waited two long weeks for something from her, but there was no sign of her. I have never been so scared in my life as I was in the moment I realized that something had happened to her. I freaked. I started calling around, seeing if anyone had heard from her. Nothing. I did everything I could before I decided. I needed to go to Johto.
So, I got my boat ticket and I headed to Johto to begin my search. That is where I am now, and I am slowly gathering information. Apparently, Nami isn't the first trainer to go missing. I've heard stories that trainers from all over are going missing for no reason. But, I believe there is a reason, and I'm going to find out what that reason is and save my sister, even if it kills me!
ROLEPLAY SAMPLE"So. This is Olivine City?"
It was a bright, shining morning. The sun beat down steadily from high in the sky, lighting up the small droplets of water that hung in the ocean air. Aoi took a deep breath, a content smile on his face. He was finally here. He was finally in Johto. His first impressions of the region were good. This seaside city sure was beautiful. The water was crystal clear and just held a cool look to it, different from the warm, tropical waters of Hoenn. He liked the change. It was relaxing. But, unfortunately, he wasn't here for relaxing, as much as he would like to be. In fact, he was here for a much different reason, and a much more urgent one.
Aoi pulled a laminated piece of paper from his pocket, bringing it up to hang in front of his face. A small smile formed on his lips. She was here somewhere, he could just feel it. He would be seeing Nami again soon. He just needed to get his detectve on! He quickly lowered his hand, letting it hang at his side as a determined look spread across his whole face. Now, it was time to get to-
"Trike, triiiike!" It was the small bark of the small, electric dog at his feet that brought him back to reality. He instantly looked down, a little confused at first before he saw the look on his closest friend's face. He physically hit his face with his palm. How could he have forgotten? He had promised Margo they would be getting something to eat as soon as they got off the boat. It had been a long boat ride. He hadn't realized his hunger because of his determination to start his search for his sister, but she must have been starving by now! He smiled down at her, but just received an annoyed growl in return.
"Sorry, girl. Forgive me?" Aoi gave his small friend a sheepish grin, one that not many people would be able to stay angry at. But, Margo just glared at him, an audible growl coming from her stomach. She then sat down and pointed to her stomach with her paw, growling at him as if to say 'See?! I'm dying here!'. Aoi didn't know what to say, and just laughed it off awkwardly, rubbing the back of his neck before looking back towards the city. He could see a small, seaside restaurant not far from where they were now. That would be the perfect spot for them to get a quick bite to eat before getting back to search and rescue efforts. "Look, Margo, there's a place we can get some food right over there and- Aoi cut off at the sudden sound of a click coming from his bag. Before he knew it, he saw a flash of light, and then his vision was blocked by a pair of large, bug eyes and a devilish smile. "Orith!"
"AAAAAAAH!" Aoi's eyes grew extremely wide and he flew back, throwing his arms up in the air and flailing them around before falling down on his butt, his 'attacker' falling off his head and into his lap, staring up at him and wagged its back end. It took Aoi a minute to register, but he soon let out a small, understanding sigh, running a hand through his hair and patting the small Pokemon on his lap. "Geesh, Rudy. You got me good that time!" He smiled at the mischivious little Anorith in his lap before he saw something fly passed his face. It looked like a piece of paper or something. It was then when it hit him. A terrified expression appeared on his face and he looked down at his hands, just seeing his bare palms before looking after the paper as it was blown away from him.
"The picture!" Aoi immediately jumped to his feet, throwing the tiny Pokemon from off his lap to land clumsily on the ground. It didn't affect it though, and he just started crawling after Aoi as the trainer began chasing after the piece of paper. Lucky for Aoi, Margo had been paying attention the entire time, and was one step ahead of her trainer. Effectively using her Quick Attack move, Margo easily caught up to the piece of laminated memory, skillfully jumping up in the air and bringing it down with her teeth. With a graceful land, she turned back to Aoi, who was just catching up to her, already out of breath from the small exertion of energy. When he got to where she was standing, he bent over, taking a few deep breaths before looking back up at Margo, whose expression said she was clearly not impressed with her trainer's lack of stamina.
"Thanks, girl." Aoi mumbled between breaths before grabbing the picture from her and looking it over. There were a few teeth marks in it, but nothing too serious. At least he had got it back. If he hadn't, he didn't know what he would do. That was the only connection he had to Nami at the moment, the only tool he had to find her. Without that, he was lost, and so was Nami. After a few more seconds of looking, he slid the picture back in his pocket before bending down and patting Margo's head in praise. He turned, picking up his small Anorith in the process.
"Now, how about that food?"

SPECIESThe Lightning Pokemon (Electrike)
GENDERFemale
PERSONALITYDespite being Aoi's closest companion and friend, this feisty pup is the near polar opposite of him. While Aoi is humble and a bit conflicted, Margo is proud and sure of herself. She thinks she is the greatest thing that has ever been placed on Earth's surface, and she will convince you of that too. She doesn't think anyone can beat her, even if, in the back of her mind she knows she is completely outmatched. She is the type of Pokemon who would fight to the death without a second thought because, in her mind, it would be better to die then to show weakness and give up in a battle. That mindset probably comes from her wild background. Margo also despises her ball, and will not hesitate to give Aoi a good shock whenever he tries to put her in it. However, despite these seemingly undesirable qualities, she is a complete sweetheart towards Aoi. He is a hero in her eyes. He is her savior after all and, no matter what stupid thing he does, she will always be right by his side, following his orders...as long as Aoi doesn't try putting her in that Arceus-forsaken ball to often! Her ball-capsule allows her to enter with a flurry of flames and lighting, the fire appearing to burn around her body while electricity sparks out from it.

PERSONALITYRudy is an odd little fellow, and not only just in the looks department. He's got a very playful and mischivious personality, which just seems strange for his species. He's constantly sneaking out of his ball and scaring the ever living daylights out of Aoi. He tends to act like a dog, too, even more so than Margo. He's pretend like he's wagging his tail and loves to play fetch. He also likes other people a little too much. He's the first one to run up to a stranger and greet them, even if Aoi wasn't planning on introducing himself. He also enjoys sitting on Aoi's head or sleeping in his messenger bag. Just like Margo, he does not like his ball, but since he doesn't electrify Aoi when he is put back in it, he isn't out as much. His ball capsule allows his to enter in a explosion of shining bubbles.

Rai-Rai
SPECIESThe Firefly Pokemon (Volbeat)
GENDERMale
PERSONALITYPoor, poor Rai-Rai. He is what people would call a hopeless romantic. He's always on the lookout for that perfect girl. Little does he realize that Johto doesn't have the same Pokemon as Hoenn, and the chances of him finding that special Illumise is nearly zero. Aoi has tried to explain it to him many times, but it's like it doesn't register with him. He's so stuck on it that no amount of reasoning will stop his mad love search. However, he is a great contest Pokemon and easily the most graceful and striking of all Aoi's Pokemon. And, if you couldn't tell earlier, he is extremely persistent. He will won't give up on something once he's started unless he sees no possible way he can achieve his goal. Just like the rest of Aoi's team, he also does not like being in his Pokeball. How is he supposed to find a pretty lady in there? Rai-Rai's ball capsule allows him to enter in a cloud in dark smoke, giving an ominous effect as all you are able to see is his tail glowing.
