the real important stuff
APPEARANCE»»» Kory has the body of a thin giant. He’s six-foot-five and trips the scales at one hundred seventy-three pounds. Most of which is lean muscle. There is little to no body fat on Kory’s body. Which is odd, even though he’s still a teenage boy, he eats like his stomach is a bottomless pit. Given enough time, Kory could easily eat you out of house and home. Good thing he has a fast metabolism, or else he’d be as inflated as a Snorlax. Which would be a funny thing to see, a six-foot-five Snorlax. The only other thing that keeps Kory fit is his three dogs. Walking them, anyone would be thin. Kory’s skin isn’t too dark, but you know that he’s been out in the sun for awhile.
Apart from the hair on his head, there isn’t much hair on Kory’s body. He usually has a bit of scruff on his face. It makes him look rough, and add in his huge body, it gives him a pretty intimidating figure. All the hair that Kory grows is a very dark brown, almost black. Until you get it wet, then it’s a jet-black color. His hair is a medium length, barely reaching his shoulders. It covers his ears. His hair isn’t exactly straight, and the strands tend to give slight curls here or there, making his hair look messy. It doesn’t help that Kory usually is playing with his hair, making it even messier. His eyes are a stark contrast to his hair, a light-blue grey to them. They almost look like he’s blind. If eyes are portals to the soul, the Kory’s eyes are like gigantic clear windows to his. You can easily tell his emotions from his eyes.
When it comes to skin blemishes of any kind, Kory isn’t your man. He’s much too proud of himself to let something as silly as a pimple ruin his beautiful face. His skin’s always soft, and he is proud of the amount of work he takes to look good. His bathroom is filled with acne care, lotion, and the works. The only thing he refuses to put on is make-up that isn’t foundation. He’ll use foundation if a pimple somehow appears on his face, which is less likely than a blue moon.
When it comes to clothing, Kory wears basically the same outline filled in different ways. He always is wearing a dress shirt. It’s not forced on him, he just likes them. The shirt’s never buttoned up all the way. Instead, it usually has two or three buttons undone. He usually wears a wife beater undershirt or a deep V-neck. So you see skin when he has his shirt unbuttoned. Over his shirt is a vest. This, like the shirt, can come in any color. But the two will always match. For pants, Kory wears baggy jeans. They can also come in any color, but he prefers to wear darker colors for pants. As shoes go, Kory doesn’t like Converse. He goes for shoes that look more like basketball shoes. And these shoes are usually very colorful. But, all the colors have to go together. Or he wouldn’t look good. If you haven’t noticed by now, Kory puts a huge amount of effort to make himself look good.
PERSONALITY»»» Kory’s also a pretty friendly kid. He’ll try to make friends with anyone who looks lost or sad. He’ll try to talk with them, and will normally refuse to acknowledge it if they don’t want to talk back. He loves to be around people, and normally feels odd when he’s not around people. He also has immunity to awkward silences, and believes there’s no such thing as an awkward silence. And if there’s a silence, he has some convoluted way of breaking it, normally with some far-fetched or made-up story that he makes up on the spot. It also helps that he’s pretty creative, and daydreams. A lot of his random stories are actually some daydream or dream he’s had. The only time he’d ever back off from someone that he thought needed a good, Kory-sequel conversation are those that will cut him or beat him up if he doesn’t stop, but it’ll only deter him in the most extreme occasions.
Kory’s also a klutz. It also is one of the reasons why he’s not on any sports teams; he’d fall and kill someone and himself. Maybe more people, if they’re unlucky. Anyway, the main reason why he is a klutz is because he’s not really observant of his surroundings. This also ties back to his daydreaming. He’ll be thinking of something, and trip over some random chair. So, it’s very odd to find Kory without some cut on his body, and nine times out of ten, he doesn’t know where it came from. This for some people would be seen as bad, for Kory, it’s an average day.
Another one of Kory’s quirks is that he’s kind. It also ties back to his friendliness. He’ll also talk to people out of kindness, though mostly it’s his friendly nature kicking into gear. He’ll do more than just talk to you out of kindness, unless it’s completely necessary for him to finish what he’s doing, like a test, he’ll drop what he’s doing and come help you. He never asks for anything in return. And if you do try to give him something, he’ll deny it over and over. He’ll only accept payment if you trick him into it. Without trickery, there’s no way you can repay Kory for his kindness. He may even get mad at you if you offer payment.
Kory’s also pretty modest. He doesn’t like it when people compliment him, since he can’t take them very well. He doesn’t like it when people compliment him or his work. If you compliment him, he’ll go into some very un-Kory-like shy mode, and stops talking. He doesn’t let people see his work, and if you steal his notebook, he may run after you with some weapon. If you read his work, you’ll have to die. Though he does post it online, he only wants criticism. Criticism he can deal with much, much better than compliments. He also thinks that when someone compliments him, that they’re lying to make him feel better. So, if you compliment him, the first thought to go through his mind is “Do they mean it? Are they just trying to make me feel good about myself?” Though he’d never voice it aloud.
Kory is also a competitive person. It’s what got him to his current status as the Azalea Gym Leader. He won’t let anyone beat him. If they happen to somehow do just that, then he’ll practice and practice until he’s better than ever. This need to be the best also has incarnated a strong work ethic in Kory. Any rivals of Kory Lindsay should always watch their back; he’ll be right on their heels!
HISTORY»»» In the Pokemon Center of Azalea Town twenty years ago on October thirteenth, a baby took its first crying breaths. The baby was named Kory Lindsay. His parents were Malcolm and Nancy Lindsay. Malcolm had taken over the Azalea Gym from its previous owner, Bugsy. Nancy was a famed local coordinator. The baby boy was destined for greatness. On an interesting note, the night of Kory’s birth was the night that Kory’s Ariados’ great-grandmother’s egg was laid. Just an interesting note.
The boy was brought up around all kinds of pokemon. His mother was one of those people who had no clear favorite type, much to her husband’s wonder. He couldn’t figure out how someone could have all types, and not favor one over the other. He’d fallen in love with Bug pokemon, as evident by the astounding number of them around the house. Kory grew up playing with Ariados and Glameow, Flareon and Heracross, and Pikachu and Surskit. He was just like his father. He loved all pokemon, but his heart always had a special place for Bug pokemon. He was soon joined in his time at home by three siblings; two brothers and a sister.
Growing up, he was a pretty popular kid. Everyone knew who he was, and all the kids wanted to be his friend. He lived the high life. He always had someone he could hang out with. All the kids were jealous. He got to live around so many pokemon. With famous parents, all of Kory’s friends’ parents wanted to get to know the local heroes. It came to a point when Kory was ten that Kory didn’t know who his real friends were. It was the first time that he’d ever said no to people asking to hang out. He realized he had very few true friends. He clung to them like ugly to a Prugly.
When he was twelve, he was given his first pokemon egg. It would later hatch into Arachne, his first pokemon and a Spinarak. He loved the little pokemon. He didn’t catch many until he was fifteen. By then, he’d gone through a time of heavy schooling by his parents. Then, they let him go off into the world, another egg in tow.
He went to the Sinnoh region first. He heard about all the new Bug pokemon out there. His egg hatched on the way. It was a female Heracross, who he named Coralline. He spent a total of two years in the Sinnoh region. There, he trained to become a great trainer. He didn’t get many pokemon. A Wurmple who went on to become Thorn the Beautifly and Scorpio who evolved into a Drapion. Here he became powerful, and learned about Contests and being a trainer. In his eyes, he was victorious coming back home. He'd really found out who he was on his trip, experimenting with what he liked and didn't like, and found he likes a lot more than he doesn't like.
He stayed at home for a year, practicing arts he’d learned on the road. He’d been keeping contact with his family, but was surprised to find out his older younger brother became a trainer, and his other siblings had become coordinators. He went around, batting the Johto league. At eighteen, his father was becoming an elder for his time. He’d been around for a long, long time as the Gym Leader. He felt like it was time to pass on the torch. Kory at first didn’t accept it. He still had much to do. But in a few months, he accepted his dad’s place in the league. But it wasn’t an easy thing to do. Malcolm had to make sure his son was both ready and powerful enough to take on this responsibility.
The battle had been a 3-on-3 single-battle match. Kory used Arachne, Coralline, and Scorpio. His father used his Mothim, Masquerain, and Butterfree. Kory knew it would be a hard match; his dad’s pokemon had the extreme upper hand, battle-worn and experienced. Arachne was able to take out the lesser-experienced Masquerain before easily being knocked-out by Mothim. But not before the Bug-Flying pokemon had been poisoned. Coralline was the one to finish off Mothim. She was able to hold her own on Butterfree, but a well-aimed Psybeam finished her off. It was Scorpio against Butterfree. It was an interesting battle. The Butterfree used her advantage of air to keep away from Scorpio’s Thunder Fang. But she fell to Confuse Ray, forcing her to land. Kory won the fight.
Now Kory was proclaimed the Gym Leader. He started to learn more about breeding, starting to try the practice himself. He had to be ready for anything. Most of his pokemon that he bred were given to his siblings. Mostly his sister, who was the only other one of the three to like Bug pokemon. His brothers liked them too, but they didn’t have the same love for them as Kory or his sister Anna. He kept a few at home, and more were released into the wild.
Kory quickly learned that because his gym was usually one of the first for trainers, he needed some pokemon that could compete with them. He started using pokemon from home. This is the point that Draco, Pinch, and Slash all come into the picture. It’s been a few months now, and Kory has finally settled into the life of a Gym Leader.
ROLEPLAY SAMPLE»»» “Arachne, Signal Beam!” bellowed out a deep voice. Kory Lindsay was practicing with his Ariados, Arachne. His large spider pokemon, Arachne, responded perfectly. Her back curled up, and a brightly colored beam shot from a point between her two back feelers. It hit the webbing that she’d already laid out, and they broke in a glistening shower. But they were far from done.
“Now, Poison Sting!” Kory called out. Arachne shot thousands of stinging pins from her mouth. They intercepted the falling webs, and sent them toward the ceiling. “Psychic!” called out Kory. Arachne’s eyes glowed blue as she tapped into her Psychic powers. The stingers exploded in purple explosions. The webs glistened in the light from the explosions. It was a wonderful sight. The simple combination from Spider Web, Signal Beam, Poison Sting, and Psychic was a stunning conclusion. There was just one last part. “Arachne, Spider Web again to finish it off!” Kory called out. The webbing was a quick one. Her webs were strong enough to build up a pedestal for her to stand up on. As she stood there, the glitter settled on her.
Kory paused. “Good job, Arachne. Maybe, hmm…” he trailed off. He had to figure out how to change it up. He and Arachne had been working for weeks on this routine. But something was off. Kory couldn’t think what was missing. “Arachne, I have an idea. We need to start with a fresh field,” thinking for a moment, he brought out a Pokeball. “Thorn, help us out!” he yelled as a red laser brought out a large butterfly pokemon. Thorn looked at Kory like he was crazy. “Thorn, help us out and I’ll let you see the new white roses I’ve been growing out back…” Kory cooed. Thorn thought for just a moment before nodding to show he agreed.
“Arachne, start with Night Slash. Thorn, Shadow Ball. Use it on the webbing to cut it down. Then when it’s down, Thorn, use your Whirlwind to blow it away. Got it?” he asked. The two didn’t answer, instead they went to work. Arachne’s front legs glowed with a dark purple light as she started to slash away her work. Thorn repeatedly created large dark blobs and hit the web. It didn’t take long before the dense webbing was destroyed. Kory smiled as Thorn started to flap his wings hard, and Arachne quickly backed up. The wind picked up and the remnants were blown away. Kory picked up Thorn’s Pokeball. Thorn glided back and went back.
“Alright, Arachne, Spider Web!” Kory yelled. And he continued the same routine, but before Arachne used Psychic, she created her Spider Web pedestal. From there, she used Psychic to create a shower of glitter to give herself a backdrop. It looked amazing to Kory. It showed the real power of a Bug pokemon.
Arachne looked extremely proud. She couldn’t see what was going on behind her. Her Contest training told her to hold her pose until Kory told her it was okay. He nodded after the explosions had settled. Arachne sighed as she went out of her pose. “Good job for the day, Arachne. Let’s go home,” he said. Arachne’s face glowed as she quickly crawled after her trainer.

NAME»»» Arachne
SPECIES»»» Ariados
GENDER»»» Female
PERSONALITY»»» Even though she’s a scary Ariados, Arachne is a pretty friendly spider. She’s really hard to offend, which is a good thing, since many people are freaked out by a giant spider trying to be friendly. She’s also extremely loyal to Kory and his close friends. In battle, she’s extremely crafty. Ingenious is another word to describe this not-so-little spider. In Contests, she accents her appearance. Arachne is a pokemon that has to learn it on her own. She has the idea that advice isn’t needed on her. Give her advice, she’ll act grateful and then ignore it.

She has a very long fuse, and it takes a lot to get her going off on someone. She’s also mastered the art of tuning people and pokemon out. In battle, she uses her natural defenses to withstand her opponents. In Contests, she’s another pokemon. It’s all about Coralline. She finds anything and everything that will make her look pretty.

He will refuse nectar from any flower but quality roses. He especially favors white roses. Because he doesn’t want to get himself all dirty and mutilated, Thorn doesn’t battle. At all. Instead, he’s a Contest pokemon. His appeal rounds show how full of himself he is. They all have to do with him, glitter, and sparkles.

PERSONALITY»»» Draco, in all honesty, is a spazz. He cannot sit still for one second, and must be buzzing everywhere at once. It doesn’t help that Yanma are naturally fast pokemon. He can always be found zipping from one place to the next. He also has the attention span of a goldfish on speed. Almost nothing can keep his attention for more than a second. In battle, he is a hard target to hit, his energy and flight making him hard to hit.

NAME»»» Pinch
SPECIES»»» Pinsir
GENDER»»» Male
PERSONALITY»»» Pinch is an aggressive little tyke. Very little doesn’t set him off on an aggressive rage. When he’s in one of his “fits,” as Kory calls them, very few people or things can calm him down. Kory and Coralline are the only two as of now who can calm him. One of the few things that can calm him is his favorite food; Pecha Berries. When he’s in his “fit,” he’ll try and fight anyone and anything. He can be seen fighting trees when he can’t find anyone. In battle, he’s a tough opponent because of his aggressions. In Contests, he uses his strength to show himself off.

GENDER»»» Female
PERSONALITY»»» Slash is the little baby of the group. She needs attention. She needs it or she’ll die. She’s also really needy. Slash is prone to acting up and acting bratty. She’s also very clingy, and is usually all over Coralline. In battle, Slash isn’t very helpful. If someone hits her, she’ll sit down and sob about it, so Slash isn’t used in battle much, or is a last-ditch effort.

NAME»»» Scorpio
SPECIES»»» Drapion
GENDER»»» Male
PERSONALITY»»» Scorpio was born into the wrong species. He really should’ve been a Slakoth. He really, really, REALLY doesn’t like to do work of any kind. It’s surprising he’s as powerful as he is. He’d much rather be taking a nap or sitting in the sun over training for Contests and battles. With that, he’s also really easy to anger. Get him angry, and he becomes extremely aggressive, and will fight anything that moves. In battle, he is one tough opponent because he’s so aggressive. In Contests, he’s also pretty lazy, but he does at least try. If he feels that he has a good shot, he’ll try. If he sees the competition and knows it’s useless, his effort plummets to nothing.
