APPEARANCE
Atsui stands roughly 5'6, and admittedly has an unusual appearance that some people find unsettling. For one thing, his eyes are an eerie golden color, a feature for which he has no explanation. Additionally, his hair is a most mysterious shade of white, and wild and unkempt. Atsui makes little attempts to make himself look nice for the road, and goes with a fairly natural look. In terms of clothing, Atsui favors a white button-up shirt, underneath a navy blue jacket. Atsui's skin is a naturally pale color, though this is mainly due to his homeland being quite cold. Atsui is unusued to Johto's warmer climate, so he tends to walk with his jacket front open and his shirt unbuttoned. He likes to wear black jeans, and black running shoes.
PERSONALITYAtsui is a curious but patient young man. He knows the value of hard work and preparation. He is not unused to having to suffer through trials, and has developed an attitude of turning any setbacks to his advantage as best he can. Even though he missed the metaphoric boat on his Pokemon journey, he turned this to his advantage, taking his first year to adequately study Pokemon, learn their habits, strengths and weaknesses, etc. He studied the theory of Pokemon technique, and behaviors as well, hoping to get an edge on his competition due to age and possible experience, at least in theory. Despite this, he could also be extremely hot-headed at times and, like the type he so idolizes, can be quite passionate and emotional, rushing into danger headlong if he feels strongly enough about it, without stopping to think out a plan..
Now that he is about to commence his journey however, he is excited and fun loving. He loves to get out, but takes Fire Type Pokemon very seriously. He hates it when people make fun of his goals, or point out weaknesses in it. It's his own goal, and he wants to become a Pokemon master HIS way, regardless of whether it would be easier to do it another way. He's a stubborn youth and can be spontaneous at times, but ultimately will stick to his word. If Atsui promises you something, rest assured he will come through on that promise!
Atsui's ultimate goal is to become a master of fire pokemon, and it is a goal he takes very seriously. To do this, he wants to catch as many fire types as possible and challenge the Pokemon League with them, to prove their strength! He is an example of Elite 4 Karen's philosophy; that people should try to win with their favorite Pokemon, not just strong ones.
HISTORYInterestingly enough, Atsui's tale does not start in Johto. He was born in the Hoenn region, in the Volcano town of Lavaridge-- famous for its hotsprings, and its Gym, specializing in Fire types.
ROLEPLAY SAMPLEFinally! The adventure of a lifetime! Atsui was on his Pokemon journey, his Pokemon in tow. He knew his goal from the start, and would work his way to the top, and be known as a great master of Fire Pokemon! ......And here he was fighting a Bug Catcher. Well, all journeys had their first steps, right? The Bug Catcher had released a Beedrill to fight him, but Atsui was hardly worried. Bug Pokemon were among the worst types to fight him with. Atsui was a master of the fire type, afterall.
Atsui flicked up his Pokeball, emblazoned with a flame symbol on it-- his personal touch, and threw it, releasing his new Charmander. The Beedrill charged Charmander with its Fury attack, but the lizard Pokemon nimbly dodged at Atsui's command, and struck back with a scorching ember attack, flailing its burning tail at the Beedrill. The flames scorched the Beedrill badly and made it retreat in pain. "Don't let it rest Charmander! Keep at it! Chase it with scratch!" He exclaimed, and Charmander obeyed, leaping after the Beedrill and striking it harshly with a scratch attack. But suddenly, Charmander keeled over in pain falling to the ground. Atsui stared in amazement. What had just happened. Then he saw the Beedrill's lower stinger and realized the Bug pokemon had counterattacked with Poison Sting!
This was bad! Charmander seemed poisoned, and Atsui didn't plan on losing to a trainer wielding a type that Atsui should have been dominating. "Charmander! Hang in there!" Beedrill charged Charmander again, stingers ready. "Charmander, use smokescreen!" The fire lizard belched out a thick cloud of smoke obscuring the Beedrill's vision. The deadly stingers missed their mark, giving the Charmander an opening to counterattack with a second Ember, this time, smashing the Beedrill to the ground, and knocking it out. Atsui pumped his fist, in the air in victory, but then saw his Charmander staggering. "Crap! Charmander get back in here and rest a bit! You've earned it!" He commended the fire type, returning it to its Pokeball.
He congratulated the Bug Catcher on a battle well fought, and continued past him on his way into the forest. While his theory seemed right, and his tactics effective, he realized he had a long way to go as far as actual technique and experience was concerned. Something to work on. Something to work on.
