He had found it.
It was a miracle he had found it so quickly anyways, he had never been here before. Perhaps his desire to please others had helped him to find this place which Melrose wanted to get to so desperately. A contest hall. For all his training as a coordinator he had never once allowed himself to enter a contest. Julian clearly sensing the opportunity to show off writhed in his pokéball. Isaiah was silent, Riley knew it would take a mountain of praise and pleading to get the gloom to enter a contest, Julian however might do better.
As Riley reached for the poke ball to let Julian see the outside of the arena Alexis gave an angry huff. The message behind it was clear. He was Riley’s first pokémon and he was going to be the one to see this place with Riley, no one else. As much as Riley adored Julian, he decided better to let the stuck up fox have his way for now at least. He wondered when the next contest would be held here; perhaps he and Melrose would compete.
Would it be the same thrill as trainers had in gyms? Riley remembers how Annabelle always used to talk about how wonderful gyms were. How hard her pokémon fought and how proud she was of them every time they competed. He had seen her battle one once, and the excitement was so engulfing. Riley hated seeing pokémon fight, but this had been special. Would Annabelle watch his first contest if she was around?
Would she ever be around to see him for that matter?
This thought put a damper on his excitement, but he was careful not to make it outwardly visible. He didn’t want to upset Melrose if he could avoid it he was sure the blonde would be ecstatic about finding the contest hall. He wondered if the Luxray might be excited as well, or if it would remain it sombre self. The Luxray reminded him a bit of his mother.
Funny, the thoughts we think up aren’t they?

The blonde co-ordinator's grin was spread wide as he looked upon the contest hall. Finally! He'd be able to watch some contests and maybe he'd enter his first one in this very building. He ran a hand through his hair, brushing it out of his eyes so he could take in every detail of the place without the golden strands of hair hindering his vision. He very nearly whistled in his excitement. Beside him, Antauri was showing some amount of excitement as well, the luxray's red-and-yellow eyes glittering. They'd seen quite a few contests together, but the thought of entering one was still making them both nervous and excited. Nova, the riolu still in its pokeball, was sensing their excitement, but the black-masked pokemon had already given up on the idea of escaping its pokeball and the red-and-white orb stayed unusually still, much to Melrose's satisfaction. He wondered the the black-masked troublemaker was finally learning to obey a little.
Melrose turned to Riley to thank him. "Thanks for getting me here so quickly!" he grinned. He had half a mind to ruffle Riley's hair as he thanked him, but he wasn't sure how the action would be taken so his hands stayed where they were, instead he spoke to his luxray, nudging it with the toe of one shoe. "Antauri..." he hummed commandingly. The luxray grunted, knowing just what its owner was getting at. Antauri flicked the star at the end of its tail in annoyance, not liking what it had to do but its sense of obedience and etiquette compelled it. Taking a few steps towards Riley, it uttered in an apologetic rumble, the small sound forcing its way out "L....Lux." before turning abruptly away, unable to stand the embarrassment of having been overly-hostile to someone who had went out of his way to help.
At that point, unexpectedly, Nova took the chance to break out of its pokeball. The pretty little riolu exiting in a beam of red light and landing on its hind paws with all the grace and pose of a ballet dancer. Its paws placed on its hips, it looked around with an air of nonchalance, as if it hadn't just broken out of its pokeball and had been walking about in freedom the entire time. Its red eyes looked up at the Contest Hall and filled with excitement, and it tugged at Melrose's pants leg, trying to pull him forwards into the building. "Sorry about her," Melrose said with a sigh, putting a hand up to pinch the bridge of his nose in frustration. "She's always doing that. Just swat her if she causes trouble. Nova is her name, annoyance is her game." Melrose glared at the black-masked pokemon, only to be skillfully ignored by it as it turned to stare curiously at Alexis, crimson eyes wide and friendly.
Melrose rubbed the back of his neck and spoke to Riley, leaving Antauri to glare threateningly at Nova. "So, are you going to enter a contest? Or are you just watching?"
