APPEARANCE
Carter is the type to like things extravagant, normally. However, he keeps to a rather simple beauty when it comes to his own appearance; perhaps an attempt to keep from overwhelming others when he is amongst his own things, which are rather overwhelming all on their own. He keeps his pants black, dress pants normally, with no particular flair to them. His shirts are in stark contrast in color, being white, and are loose. There's often some sort of slight collar to them, though it isn't rigid, and there is sometimes a slight flair to his sleeves, though only sometimes, and the shirt is often loose enough it isn't particularly noticeable. He wears a simple golden chain around his neck, a blue teardrop pendent hanging from it. The chain is long, as it doesn't do up, but rather slips over his head, so the pendent hangs a good three inches below the neckline of his shirt, and it is always on top where it is visible. Over his shirt, usually around his shoulders but not on his arms at all, is one of his two favorite jackets. They both sport the same design of a checkerboard of diamonds, though one is light gray and sky blue with silver trim and the other is pink and purple with a golden trim. He wears nothing else, save for black leather shoes and socks of course.
As for his body, he isn't exactly a buff guy. In fact, he's rather refined. He stands at about five foot eleven, but it isn't a gawky, awkward height, despite his thinner stature. He suits his build just fine, and grew into long before most. His legs are long, as as his fingers, and he'd probably wouldn't be able to hold his own in a fist fight, but that is exactly why he avoids them. His hair is a light blond, fine and delicate, too, and it stops just a mere millimeter or two above his shoulders. His eyes are an ocean blue, his hair and eyes a combination most girls he's met would swoon over, and he knows it. His face, like his body, is refined, with pointed chin, a small nose, and well defined cheekbones that don't stand out enough to make his cheeks look hollow. He may not be the tall, dark and handsome type or particularly macho, but he's rather good looking in his own right and uses it to his full advantage most days.
PERSONALITY
Perhaps the most obvious thing is Carter's rather... well, "rich" nature. It isn't that he rubs it in everyone's face that he's got money and they don't or anything; no, he isn't that blunt or mean. He's just so used to having whatever he wants whenever he wants in whatever quantity he wants and when he sees someone wanting something but they can't get it, he just can't help but get it for them. He's only trying to be nice, to help them out, but more often than not, they snap at him because they wanted to earn it, not just get it. He doesn't understand this concept, not in the slightest, even though he has earned his way to gym leader. The problem is, he was just naturally good at battling, so he didn't feel like he worked to get there, and he doesn't quite notice as sense of accomplishment for this reason.
He's also easily distracted. Not in a battle, mind you, but should something in the corner of his eye catch his attention, you may not get it back. Especially if that distraction shines and sparkles in the sun. He's like a magpie in this respect; if it's shiny, it's fascinating. Even if it really isn't. This is part of his love of the steel-type; they shine. If you step in his gym, or his home for that matter, you'll see lots of mirrors, metals, gems and jewels, all with lights aimed at them to make them glitter to the best of their ability. He could lay on his bed staring at these baubles and things all day with a grin on his face.
He isn't the type to stay put, either, and wait for challengers. He's more prone to wandering the world with his trainers giving him a call to fly back when a challenger shows up. This sort of attitude applies to more than just scenery; he's never had a girlfriend for longer than a week, and most were no more than a few days(this includes the occasional boyfriend, too, mind you). He may be charming, considerate, and spoil whoever is on his arm at the time, but they don't usually stick around long because he has trouble keep his attention on them long enough for them to realize his mind isn't the easiest to focus. They blame him for something or other and leave, and then, big surprise, he's alone again. He's never cared about any of them enough to chase after them though, which is sort of his fault. As a result of being constantly left, he's taken to flirting rather regularly, though don't worry too much; he's loyal to a fault until you leave him. He won't even bat an eye at someone else if he's dating you.
He's flippant about things, too, often just brushing whatever off as if it's nothing, even when it isn't. He only really concerns himself with the welfare of his pokemon, the quality of his possessions, and making sure everything stays shining, rather than dulling with dust. He isn't even concerned with keeping things tidy, so his gym and his house are both haphazard. There's clean paths through, but the ceiling is crowded with hanging objects, things are piled onto shelves and sometimes the floor, and you have to pay attention if you don't want to trip, fall, and break a bajillion things.
HISTORY
Carter was born into a rich family. And not just rich, but ridiculously rich. His mother didn't work, so he wasn't stuck with a nanny regularly either. His mother, Sophia, was never one to leave him alone and he was the spitting image of her. She had only one pokemon, a gentle Delcatty who become his sole playmate until he was about five. He never really knew his father, as he was never home. He was to be homeschooled, but then his mother got sick. It was quick, and it was terrible. She was gone within a month. Suddenly, his father was home more often, but never to pay attention to his son. It was then young Carter got a nanny and a tutor. He was kept at home until he was seven, and then he was shipped off to a private school.
He hated it. Hated it with a passion. Not because it was bad, either. The school itself was wonderful, but it took away the one thing he cared about; his mother's Delcatty, his only link with her. All pictures of her had been taken down and all her things had been locked away when she had died, it was too painful for his father to see them. Just like it was too painful for him to see his son. By ten, Carter couldn't stand it anymore and he made his father a deal. If he was not cut off from the money, but was allowed to take the Delcatty and leave the school to travel, he would stay out of his father's way and he'd never have to see him again. The deal was accepted and Carter began traveling the Sinnoh region and collecting badges with his growing team of pokemon.
He moved on to Kanto next, not bothering with the league. The badges were solely collected because they shined, not for any other reason. He collected them all easily enough, but he didn't care much about what that meant. But seventeen, he had only the Johto badges left to get, and get them he did. From there, he grew bored, bought a house in Olivine and started collecting other things; necklaces, bracelets, anything that sparkled and shone and glittered. With his love for the steel type, he grew close to Jasmine, though not as a lover. He was more of an apprentice, not that he needed the training. She grew tired of running the gym, however, and retired from her position, passing it on to him, much to his surprise. She agreed to keep an eye on it while he was away, knowing he had trouble staying put. In a way, she's become the older sister he never had.
ROLEPLAY SAMPLE
Relax, Ruka! Be nice to the poor little girl!
The gentle admonishment sounded almost as if the blond man was amused, and, quite truthfully, he was. It wasn't like the lucario was actually hurting the child. She was just... growling whenever the child tried to pass by them. A flippant hand tapped a long black ear, so gentle his pokemon would hardly feel it, and the growl jerked to a stop. He slipped up off the bench, graceful as a cat, and slipped past the steel-fighting type, bending at the waist to be on eye level with the girl, who looked about ready to cry.
Don't worry little one, it's alright. She won't hurt you.
This, paired with a charismatic, reassuring smile left her with only a quivering lip until Belle decided enough was enough. The delcatty promptly rammed her claws into the lucario's foot with a growl to watch her manners, then trotted over to the girl, giving her a gently lick, then nudging her on past so she wouldn't have to deal with Ruka's overprotective nature any longer. The girl scampered off and Carter straightened again. He didn't give Ruka any warning before he stuck her back in her pokeball; after all, she'd been warned. She was to behave herself, especially around children, or she wouldn't be allowed out. She'd tried, he knew that, but she clearly hadn't tried hard enough. So, left with only his mother's delcatty out, five pokemon in pokeballs, and the terrible syndrome of boredom, he set off. He was down in that town, for now.
And so, he slipped down the road and off onto the not-so-well-trod path that happened to be not trod at all. The grass was easily up to his knees, higher in most spots, and it was difficult enough to keep track of Arabelle. He knew she wouldn't get lost, none of his pokemon would, they'd been together far too long for that, but it often made him wonder why he bothered to walk through the taller grass at all. The answer, of course, was why not? It was there, and so he chose that path instead. Simple as that. Of course, to some it would not be simple at all. But, that was a topic for another time.
Especially since something had just reflected sunlight in that tree over there.
The young adult was instantly distracted, and he darted over, faster than it would have been believed possible considering the height of hte grass and before Belle had a chance to yowl out an indignant, annoyed "Deeeeelll!"(which, of course, meant, "Car-teeeer!" or "What are you doing now?"), he was swinging up into the tree and onto the branch and peering around for it. And there it was. Nothing special. Just a piece of ribbon. But it had a metallic sheen to it and he instantly grinned. He grabbed it and leaped down, pausing to tie it around Belle's neck until he found a better place to put it.
And, naturally, his pokemon just sighed and shook her head. For a grown man, she had to deal with him as if he was a child far too much.
She was getting too old for this.
