the real important stuff
APPEARANCE»»» If you've met Himeko over some form of communication before meeting her face to face, you would anticipate a completely different look. Perhaps a bit round, regular hair and eye color, relaxed clothing without any care towards her look. If you have met her online, meeting her face to face would be some sort of shock; Himeko is scarily thin, weighing in at around 97 pounds (although she tells everyone she weighs more - she doesn't want them to be worried). She is rather tall for this scarce weight: 5'1" and seventeen years old - an easily identified case of anorexia (causing several others to think of her as inept to run a gym and even train pokémon). However, Himeko thinks this look is fine and perfect to describe the regal yet beautiful power of flying pokemon.
Her hair is long and blue; a bright, electric blue, strung up by two hair ties or twisted in a braid (usually the former) and usually brushed out and containing a tangle or two. It reaches a little bit above her rear when let down, and shorter when put up into pigtails - still pretty long nonetheless. Her pigtails are black with stripes of various down the center - usually pink or purple, rarely yellow and orange. It's a thing that's all her style, unpredictable and regal - like flying types.
Her eyes are a lighter shade of the same blue, usually glinting with various emotions, ranging from all parts of the rainbow - anger to sorrow, happiness to a Mankey sort of annoyance and bitterness. Since Himeko isn't the one who usually needs to hide her emotions (in a battle, she would easily scream in frustration if she didn't win) she is often very bad at hiding them; all of her emotions glimmer in those pale blue orbs.
When it comes to clothing and other meaningless accessories, Himeko prefers to be on the cutting edge of it all. Her normal outfit - worn during gym battles and during common outings - consist of detached sleeves, a skirt, and a low-cut shirt, along with various trinkets that have absolutely no purpose but to sit there and look meaningless. When she's out about to enter a contest, she dresses in elaborate, tight costumes that match that of her only contest partner, Rubix.
PERSONALITY»»» Himeko has set up a system to keep herself away from society's normal friendships and trivial communications. Sure, she loves the attention she got as a child when she told a funny joke; but whenever they saw here after she began losing weight and becoming more like the bird pokémon she so desired to be, there would always be questions. Questions, questions, and more questions. Have you eaten lately always transformed into you should see someone about this, and soon Himeko simply stopped trying. Sure, she's good for idle conversation and chatter with near strangers (some of which who she can't talk to for the very reason as listed above) but it's much easier to set herself up with as much fame and popularity which she can wrap her fragile hands around.
When she's alone, or with one of the few friends she has managed to keep without them nosing around in her business, she is often very expressive and curious. Innocent is a good way to describe this hyper-active female. She always asks so many questions about so many basic things; kept home as a child to raise pokémon instead of going to school and making friends and learning about science and math and all sorts of other beautiful things really rendered her helpless in that part of the world, which obviously makes her all the more curious about it. She can't help but wonder about the stars and all the marvelous things that she missed out while watching her father's newly caught Rattata or Ponyta. Sure, pokémon was great, but there came a point when enough was enough.
Speaking of enough, Himeko is known for her sharp temper and easily changing mood, swinging back and forth quickly. One moment she could be having a civil discussion about something as simple as the weather; the next she could be standing on top of the nearest tall objects (oh, how she loved tall objects, ever since she was a small child) screaming her opinions for all the world to hear. Maybe her actions are a bit too effected by her moods, but that's alright with her. Moods are always good to express, especially when the whole of the world seems quiet, cold, and moves about as much as a rock. How very exciting.
Emotional extremes are her middle name, and she can often be seen as bipolar - however, it is usually excused as side effects of her anorexia (which two of her aids at the gym constantly try to change and fail at it).
HISTORY»»» Born in what seemed on the surface to be a usual, happy family, nobody would have suspected that her father, Kyon Itō, had abused his wife and child and gotten away with it. After all, his wife was a cemetery guard at the pokémon tower in Kanto; their daughter lived in a small house, attending trainer school whenever she could afford to miss a day from watching her father's oh so precious pokémon. It wasn't until one day that he beat his wife with a tire of an old car that seven year old Himeko realized that this was bad and not normal. When she saw her friend's parents, she didn't see screaming or hitting; she saw hand holding and things she didn't at the time see as bad.
Of course, what was a kid like her to do? Living in Lavender Town, there wasn't much means to get away; and even less when her father got promoted to gym leader on Cinnabar Island, and paid so much attention to his prized pokémon and not enough on his daughter (except to yell at her and tell her to clean before he whooped her) so Himeko was born in a neglectful family. One day, a police officer came to inspect the families on the island, and noticed something was off about twelve year old Himeko. The only way to make her feel better would be to puke something up until there was nothing left; eating air except when she had to. She was pale and thin and various bruises covered her face and arms - it was obvious that child neglect had played a role in her life.
Almost immediately, she was placed into foster care and her father was stripped from his leadership position. It was a year before she was considered mentally stable enough to start on a pokémon journey with her own pokémon, but Himeko originally had no desire to have anything to do with the foul creatures who had made her father so absent and hateful. In fact, the first year she kept her only pokémon (a charmander) inside of its pokéball unless she really needed it. Her scorn was obviously not misplaced; imagine your parents loving something more than you, and completely ignoring you about it and hitting you when you said otherwise.
It took about three years until she was finally able to release the flame lizard freely from its pokéball, but she never took interest in it. It was too tough in a too blunt way - instead, she caught a Zubat and started training it, and it soon became her life partner and friend. Although she still can't look at a fire pokémon the same way again, she has bonded very closely with flying pokémon and considers them her specialty. Eventually, after Falkner and his descendant retired, she tried out and eventually won the position of Violet City gym leader at the age of sixteen (and three quarters). Since then, she has developed a rather soft heart for new trainers (although she still gets flustered when her weaker pokémon don't win for her) and thus doesn't use her partner for gym battles, instead using Rubix for coordinator contests, where she can feel like truly expressing herself.
ROLEPLAY SAMPLE»»» "Fine, you win," Himeko snapped, angrily glaring at the opposing trainer as she returned the fainted Wingull to his pokéball. She didn't blame the poor thing - this trainer had obviously trainer far more than she had with her two newest companions, and it was obvious they hadn't been trainer enough to combat with his second-stage evolutions of pokémon. However, she wanted to wipe that smug little grin off his dirty face. Beside her, Rubix fluttered uncertainly, feeling the unease of his trainer. She placed a hand on its large poison-colored body, and he immediately calmed down - but she didn't.
She placed a thin hand on her forehead, feeling another pulse of nausea rush through her.She really needed something to eatShe was fine, and she convinced herself of this while rifling through several piles and crates of random items. This gym was a mess, she decided while looking for the badge, all the while the boy standing smugly there, his Raichu standing by his side. Simply watching and not doing anything, despite her obvious labor while she looked for - oh, what was she looking for again? She paused.
… Oh yeah, badges. And some Ibuprofen, while she was at it. Finally finding the pack of badgesbut not some ibuprofen, she plucked out one delicately, admiring the finely sculpted work of art. And to imagine it would just rot in somebody's badge case until the day they approached the Elite Four! The thought was disgusting. She also gave the boy TM51, immediately telling him that, oh hey, that's roost, heal your pokémon. She didn't even remember what she had said, only that sparks were flying in her head. Rubix flapped his wings again, concern for his trainer obvious.
"Erm, say…" she mumbled to the boy. "Got any aspirin?"
