The road to Violet City had been difficult...and it showed in the girl's attire. Clenching her fists, the girl whom was covered in various weeds and herbs let out a low growl. "Remind me never to think about stuff while on the road, again." Yuuki grunted. "Ee." A brown fox perched on Yuuki's shoulder...and she was just as covered in herbs and weeds than her trainer. "Lets go somewhere to get all of these out of your fur." Yuuki sighed. The eevee nodded as Yuuki strolled forward. She would need to find out when the next contest was so she could begin her career as a coordinator. Sighing, she stopped near a bench and sat down. Taking her eevee off her shoulder, she proceeded to pick out the weeds and herbs from her fur while the eevee also worked on herself. "All done, Phinny." Yuuki said after a while. The eevee's fur was now lush and clean. "Mind helping with my hair?" Yuuki asked. Phinny nodded and lept onto the her trainer's shoulder and proceeded to pick out herbs and twigs with her teeth while Yuuki proceeded to work on her outfit.

Walter had found a coffee.
Or rather a coffee had found him. If Waltz had been the praying type, he might have sent a thank-you to Mew or Arceus or whatever legendary it was that ruled over fortuitous chance happenings. He was pretty sure there wasn't a pokemon god that ruled over, um, coffee but damnit there should have!
As it was, he thanked the coffee, the ground, and the table where the steaming hot cup had been left only half-consumed before grabbing it.
People stared. They couldn't help it: not every day you saw a Professor in a lab coat walking into Solbucks grabbing discarded, half-consumed coffees off tables. And then kowtowing to the table. Granted they were good drinks, but they weren't that good. Waltz pointedly ignored all those people by walking right out, making happy sounds he took careful, gentle sips.
He wanted to savor it, but not to savor it for so long that it went cold.
Bell was giving him a mildly reproving look but Waltz ignored the floating metal calculator. He hadn't done anything illegal to obtain this coffee! It was his! All his! Muhahahah-
Woah. Nearly slipped there. His hands were shaking. Excitement? Caffeine rush? Better find somewhere to sit.
He found a nice bench. Had a view of one of the local parks. Or what passed for a park anyway. Some kid trainer was futzing around with her hair...
Woah, mini-Rapunzel. How'd it grow so long? And how'd she take care of it? Blinking, Waltz turned away. While he had a healthy, scientific curiosity about the impossible task of keeping hair that long in such pristine condition (besides the twigs and leaves and stuff) some part of his brain noted that the brat was like twelve or thirteen and men his age were not supposed to be staring at them lest people jump to the wrong conclusions.
He turned his head, looking for something safer to observe.
Oooh! Coffee!

Phinny appeared on Yuuki's shoulder that was facing towards the man. Her ear flicked, and she proceeded to twist her head around to look in the direction of the man. The irritable little fox would've given him the cold shoulder had her trainer not turned her own head to see him. "Phin--" Yuuki cut her own self off in mid-sentence when she saw the man. He was wearing a lab coat...and drinking coffee. Yuuki simply stared at him. As Yuuki proceeded to gawk at the man still, Phinny finished with the girl's hair. "Ee." The eevee would say, slapping her trainer upside the head with her tail. "Ah, thanks." Yuuki sai turning back around. Proceeding to get the rest of the twigs and herbs off of her outfit, she would stand up and brush herself off one more time. "Guess we should head to the pokemon center to find out when the contests start, eh?" Yuuki asked the eevee who proceeded to lay down, her tail drapping over one side of her shoulders. "Ee." Phinny responded, casting a look back at the man. "Just because he stared doesn't mean you should stare back." Yuuki said with a hiss interlined in her voice. Phinny ignored her, and continued staring.

It's watching us...
The mental intrusion was about as welcome as a kick to the face. Walter shot up, looked wildly about before realizing that Bell had been referring to the kid's... uh.
Grrrr. Started with E... Waltz saw them everywhere but he always got mixed up between their evolutions and could never get the family right. He'd always been annoyed by them on a purely taxonomic basis: their entire species changed after evolution. And not just once either, but once for each different evolutionary form. Whoever had come up with that bright idea had been a moron of first class.
Not to say that the rest of the taxonomy involving pokemon wasn't just as messed up. Eevees just happened to have come up with the shortest and crappiest end of the stick on that regard.
...wait, eevee! That was their name!
Patting himself on the back, Waltz sat back down and went straight back to slurping his coffee, most thoughts about the kid relegated to the back of his mind.
Well. Almost. He noticed Bell take a defensive stance between himself and the kid and while it might have been entertaining, Bell was a little too experienced for that sort of thing.
"It's just a kid," he told Bell, after he had mostly finished the coffee. "Both of them. Stop being such a worrywart."
...I am not. Bell muttered psychically. Being a 'worrywart'
But the old softy had backed down anyway.

Phinny proceeded to stand up on her trainer's shoulders and leap down. "P-Phinny!" Yuuki cried frantically as the eevee moved forward without much care towards the man and his metang. "Ee?" The eevee asked, her eyes narrowing in a sarcastic manner. "Phinny...don't provoke...please..." Yuuki said as her hand began to flex in and out towards her palm, pleading towards her pokemon who continued her sarcastic stare, as if taunting them to talk. Yuuki, realizing she would have to do this the hard way, walked over and scooped up her little eevee and moved away. "Sorry about her...shes a bit on the wild side." Yuuki apologized, trying to be as nice as possible. She didn't know how this man or his metang would react, so she would just play the kind card for now. If it turned out to be otherwise, she would immediatly flip to the card that wasnt so kind...but for now, it was all about patience.

Wild side? Walter thought to himself, amused. He felt giddy for some reason. Probably the caffeine speaking. The Evolution Pokemon were well-known for their docile, placid nature. Well, mostly docile. It had always been true, forever and forever, that pokemon were not toysor pets they were comrades, companions, helpers and more.
Slaves, some particularly extreme groups said, but Waltz wouldn't quite go that far.
Still, this Eevee had spunk, no ifs and buts about it. Must have been an interesting training regimen.
Bell, for some reason, was still acting as if he were on high alert. No one without long experience of the metang would notice it, but the fact remained that Bell appeared bothered. Waltz wondered what exactly the psychic had picked up from the girl and eevee pair and shrugged. Children were children. It wasn't like either of them were going to go running off to the rockets, or to the police or... or... knife him, or something.
"It's fine," Walter said to the girl, "it's probably our fault, to begin with. Bell really should know better."
He gave his pokemon a poke in the back to reinforce the fact that no, they really weren't about to go and beat up a little girl and her baby pokemon. Bell jolted out of his reverie and turned to his trainer shame-facedly.
"I'm Professor Fisk," he said, feeling like he should say... well, something. His coffee was down to the last few drops and he stared at it, a little terrified about what would happen when it'd be all gone.
"Are you, ah, looking for something?"

Yuuki kept her distance, but her eyes moved to the metang. It was a strange pokemon, that was for sure. Why was it acting so defensive? Deciding not to dawdle on it, her gaze turned to the man. "She tends to provoke pokemon and trainers." Yuuki said laughing nervously. Phinny gave her trainer a stubborn look, and then proceeded to look to the man, glaring at him with her black eyes. "O-Oh! I forgot to introduce myself. Its nice to meet you, Professor Fisk! I'm Yuuki Higurashi...this is Seraphina, Phinny." She would extend her hand out to shake his if he wished. "Ah...Ah! Thats right! I need to find out when the next contest is~!" Yuuki chimed in a soft yet excited voice.
