Stephan's body loosened up as he walked out of the cave. His Squirtle at his side, they both looked exhausted. Running through a cave fighting off any predators wasn't as easy as it sounded, and it didn't sound that easy in the first place. Stephan looked down to Vanity and made sure she was okay. Yet, before he could get close enough; she turned her back, and moved away. "Oh yeah. I forgot about the touching rule..."his eyes rolled as he spoke to vanity. She was always like this. The Pokemon thought she could care for herself and didn't need anyone to look after her. Trust her to get the one trainer who is quite over-protective. They hadn't bonded very much just yet, but Stephan was determined to change that. They would first rest up then make there way into the Ilex forest. It should be a good place to gain levels, party members, but most of all, Vanity's friendship and trust. Who knows, maybe she can share a bit of the love she has for herself with Stephan. "Ha... yeah right," Stephan chuckled. Vanity looked up, as the unusual thing, that Stephan called his 'laugh', caught her attention. She gave a questioning look, only to be blanked, as Stephan walked toward Azalea town.
As Vanity followed Stephan toward the town, they passed Spearow and Slowpoke. Mainly by the well, what seemed to have an awkward aura around it, but both Stephan and his Pokemon tried to ignore it. It wasn't too hard, seeing as both of them were worn out. The sight of the Pokemon center really appealed to Stephan. Finally, he could grab some food and get Vanity taken care of. Maybe she would let a professional touch her... "Squirrr-tle!" Vanity hissed as Stephan had stopped, causing Vanity to bump into him. Stephan just then realized that he had indeed stopped, but was unsure why. Looking back up he then realized that the Pokemon center was in front of him. Smiling, he walked through the electronic door and toward the counter, which held a pink haired, generous, looking women. Slowly Vanity trailed behind him.
"Hello, can I help?" the pink haired women asked, her voice was as sweet as she looked. Stephan smiled at the women and gave space for vanity to climb up, seeing as there was still no way she would let him pick her up. Vanity popped upon the counter and looked the women up and down. She gave a 'you'll do' look, and just stood there waiting. "Could you heal my Squirtle, please?" Stephan grinned and directed his hands toward Vanity. The pink haired women nodded and careful picked up Squirtle and carried her toward a back-room. Stephan moved away and went toward a vending machine. He put in a couple dollars and out came a soda. A few steps to the right, and a candy bar slipped out the next vending machine. So Stephan took the un-nutritious snacks and sat down at one of the seats nearby. Knowing Vanity's touching rule, I'm going to be here for awhile...
Time had passed, and not exactly to the way Stephan liked. It seemed that the clock on the wall got slower and slower the longer that he watched it. "What the hell are they doing in there," he sighed, slamming his fragile head against the table. "And what exactly do you intend by that, young sir?" The sweet, yet now stern, voice asked. Stephan turned around to see the women holding his Squirtle, who looked healthy and full of life.Stephan gave a nervous chuckle as the pink haired women walked away, leaving Vanity to climb onto the table that Stephan was sat at. Looking to the Squirtle, he winked and gentle asked Vanity.
"So, ready to start training?"
The forest they had entered wasn't exactly all happy and full Munchkins, but instead filled both, Vanity and Stephan, with fear. Although Vanity wasn't as much willing to show her fear unlike Stephan. Looking around; there didn't seem to be many Pokemon in clear view, well, in all honesty, it was hard to even see the path in front of them. The mixture of darkness and overgrown tress and weeds almost made this place hard to travel through. Yet, Stephan was more focused in battling with enemies and finding a new team member though. He hadn't put too much thought into which Pokemon he was actually hoping to find just yet, but fingers crossed it would be friendly and powerful. I don't need another "Vanity", he thought, using Squirtle as a stereotype.

A small Hoothoot hopped through the forest gingerly. It called its own name loudly several times, not concerned about concealing itself from anyone. Of course any normal pokémon may have been a bit more wary, as the Hoothoo was fairly near to the path which trainers tended to tread, but this Hoothoot was all too happy to care who saw it. In fact it soon crossed a trainer and his Squirtle's path.
It was fairly dark in the forest from the cover of trees but the Hoothoot's large red eyes glowed even in the dark of the forest. It turned to face the trainer several feet from itself. It raised it's stubby wings and gave a joyful, "HOOTHOOT!" into the darkness. It hopped from one foot to another, it wasn't awfully aquainted with trainers really. It was a young pokémon, it had no idea whether to fear or not. It stared, wondering what this strange being might do.

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=cellSpacing,0,true][atrb=cellPadding,0,true][atrb=width,400,true] | [atrb=background, i241.photobucket.com/albums/ff12/follow-boy10/Tableborderborder.png]The darkness of the forest began to creep Stephan out. He had a strange feeling of being watched, but that was simply his fear filling his body. In reality there was simply nothing there, apart from Vanity, who denied how scared she really was. Stephan's eyes darted around the area, before he took some steps forward and made his way around a couple corners. A pair of red eyes suddenly appeared in the darkness, and as Stephan's eyes adjusted, the body of a Pokemon also came into sight. A Hoothoot to be exact. It hooted a little, and approached Stephan. Vanity turned her head at the 'skum'. Stephan knew the creature wasn't going to attack, but would he automatically do so, was he that evil? Of course not, but Vanity on the other hand... the Squirtle grunted as the Pokemon, before turning back to face it and using a ice beam attack. "Vanity, dammit! What's your problem?" Stephan cried out, rolling is eyes at the Pokemon. The attack shot forward in the direction of the Hoothoot. A couple of things could happen. One, it misses the Hoothoot, and it runs away. Two, the Hoothoot is hit, and runs away still. Three, the Hoothoot dodges and goes mental. Then a couple more Stephan didn't want to think about. He crossed his fingers, hoping the Hoothoot wouldn't be too annoyed with Vanity.

Hoothoot was quite pleased with it's discovery. A strange man and a squirtle, it continued it hopping dance hooting happily as it stared at its new friends, or what it supposed may be it's friends anyways. It blinked a few times slowly, unfourtunately the last blink lasted a bit too long.
As Hoothoot opened it's large red eyes an ice beam hit it in the face and it flew backwards. Friends? Has the Hoothoot been silly to think so? Perhaps it was all too trusting of strangers. Did they not think it was good enough for them? Disgruntled though it was the Hoothoot happed back onto its left foot, quickly switching to the right. It puffed up its feathers in angry and hooted in an upset manner.
Now, this Hoothoot was still quite young, it didn't have much of value in it's arsenal, but it did have one thing. It leapt forward propelling it's tiny round body straigbht at Vanity flapping it's tiny wings. It was going in for a tackle, would it make contact? The Hoothoot wasn't sure, but it was going to fight it's hardest now to prove to these things that it was worth it.
